VISION, MISSION and HISTORY
VISION
The Rozzano Locsin Institute is envisioned to be the international leader in advancing and promoting theory-based practice grounded in the theory of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing.
MISSION
The mission of the RLI is to advance theory-based practice in Nursing and the Health Sciences guided by the practice process of “knowing persons as caring” grounded within the theoretical concepts of the theory of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing.
HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE
The Rozzano Locsin Institute for the Advancement of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing and Health Sciences was founded on the conceptualization of technology, caring, and nursing in the theory of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing (Locsin, 2005). Through the initiative of Dr. Tetsuya Tanioka and with the support of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at Tokushima University, the significant and long-standing commitment and dedication of the institute were recognized to advance the knowledge of human caring in nursing. This recognition provided the unique opportunity for the RLI to engage in knowledge dissemination through international conferences, seminars, and workshops making visible the worldwide influential value of nursing grounded in caring science.
The institute has launched three international conferences and seminar-workshops since 2016. The first conference had 16 scholars, students, and researchers in nursing and health sciences. The Second conference in 2018 had 145 participants, mostly international participants, and in 2020, the first virtual conference had more than 350 participants. This was co-sponsored by the Our Lady of Fatima University, Philippines through the exceptional coordination of Dr. Michael Joseph Dino, Director of the Research and Innovation Center of the university.
BELIEFS
The following beliefs about caring, technology, nursing, and the health sciences support a unique and dynamic situation of the Rozzano Locsin Institute for the advancement of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing and Health Sciences:
Caring is a substantive focus of the discipline and practice of nursing.
Caring is not unique to nursing but is unique in nursing.
The nursing encounter, as a co-created momentary situation is understood as the relationship of the nurse and nursed in which all nursing occurs.
To be human is to be caring, i.e. all persons are caring as they are human.
AIMS
Founded in 2016 at Tokushima University, Japan, its main aim is to advance the theory of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing, and cultivate Nursing as a theory-based practice guided by the process of “knowing persons as caring” grounded in the theory of Technological Competency as Caring in Nursing.
